Lloyd was born in Birkenfeld, Germany to American parents. At age five he moved to the US with his family and spent the rest of his childhood in Massachusetts and Texas. He studied political science and music at the University of Chicago and is a graduate of Columbia Law School. He is a practicing attorney in New York City.

Lloyd’s passion for photography began at age thirteen when he purchased his first SLR camera with help from his mother. His early interests spanned across wildlife, architecture, and photojournalism.

Lloyd is an avid collector of rare, out-of-print photobooks with a particular interest in the Düsseldorf School of Photography. Some of his favorite photographers are Thomas Struth, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Wolfgang Tillmans.
